Burlesque 101

Bella Blue, of New Orleans' own Fleur de Tease, shares her talent and love of burlesque with us mere mortals. Fan dances, glove peels, and of course, the art of The Tease are all covered in these weekly classes. Ms. Blue aims to teach all of her students to feel sexier in their own skin.

"The purpose of my classes is not only to let you, the student, have fun but to help build your self-confidence as a woman and a performer. These classes are also a refreshing alternative for bachelorette parties, birthday parties, or any type of female oriented celebration. Class consists of a warm up, choreography, and cool down. You will learn basic striptease moves such as the glove peel, stocking peel, and working with props such as boas, fans, and tassel twirling if you choose." - Bella Blue

Under Bella's instruction, women are finding their inner star, renaming themselves with stage pseudonyms, investing in more lingerie, and eventually flaunting their new talents on stage at a student showcase. As the art of burlesque continues to grow in the spotlight, more outlets and instruction will become available. For now, take full advantage of the opportunity to learn under the wing of one of the best entertainers in New Orleans. You'll arrive excited, curious, and, perhaps, a little shy. However, you'll leave with stronger confidence and a proud awareness of your sexuality...and probably covered in glitter.

Welcome to 1940

I am from the sultry and hellacious city of New Orleans. I find myself apart of what is being referred to as "Pin-Up Culture". I suppose this could mean that I dress in vintage inspired clothing, know way too much about old movie stars, or that most of my friends are local burlesque performers. But maybe that's only a small part of it.

Pin-Up Culture is more than clothing or hairstyles. It's more than burlesque shows. It's a celebration and a throwback to all things glamorous. And I truly love the glamour.

It's also an attitude. Modern-day poise and charm. It's about walking into a room, and having everyone think, "now that's a lady".

The concept of this blog is to find a voice and have a space to celebrate, promote, and educate all in the name of Pin-Up Culture, whether it's history, photography, local burlesque performances and events, or showcasing the talents of the individuals behind a retro revival.

I hope you will pop in now and then, sit back, have a drink, and unwind with us, here at The Pin-Up Lounge.
